I live in Texas, my wife in Illinois.

On January 26, I was served with a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage [750 ILCS 5/401, et seq.] and a summons to reply within thirty days. I apparently received some misinformation during this time, being told I only needed to respond if I disputed any of the information presented to me. I didn't.

On March 24, I received a Notice of Hearing and a copy of a Motion for Entry of Default Order. These forms arrived via US Mail, and in essence inform me that I must appear in court on April 10.

My financial circumstances at this time do not allow me to travel across country at this time, and more to the point, if I am absolutely required to be present, I will most likely lose my place of residence due to insufficient funds (Both from travel expenses and time lost from work). I have no desire to be held in contempt of court for not appearing.
