What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I purchased a car 6 or so years ago and never had it registered in my name. After wheeling it around for a couple of years I incurred several tickets for not having a license plate on the back and as a result had several court appointments. I failed to attend each appointment and have since had my license suspended and probably have several bench warrants in my name. All violations were a result of the car failing to be properly registered and without proper license plates. My question to the forum would be what kind of trouble am I in and what is the best course for me to take at this point. I am really hoping to avoid serving time and imagine quite a hefty financial penalty. However I need to reactivate my license to get to work daily. Any help in this manner is greatly appreciated.

It is highly unlikely that you will be serving any time however, you are looking at anywhere between $100 to $200 for each violation and anywhere between $300 and $500 for each failure to appear.

You need to contact the DMV. They will give you a list of outstanding violations listed under your license number. From there, you need to contact each court where you have an outstanding citation/failure to appear, and either schedule a court appearance or pay the outstanding fines.

In the meantime, refrain from driving because if you get caught driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor charge the penalty for which can indeed include some jail time.
