The amount of written notice the landlord must provide to the tenant is contingent upon the type of tenancy between the landlord and tenant. For tenants who have three-month tenancies or a contract that can terminate after three months, the landlord must give the tenant 30 days' written notice of the landlord's intent to raise the rent. For month-to-month tenants, landlords must provide them with 15 days' notice. However, tenants who have year-to-year lease agreements must have at least 60 days' notice.

Can it be verbal or must it be in writing? A girl in the office told me the price would be going up, but I haven't received any letters or anything. Would my signature be required?

in writing, signature not required.

if you don't like the increase, don't pay it, and put in your 30 day notice that you are vacating.

Well I guess what I'm wondering is if they might try to impose this increase on me without written notice, and if so if they might claim to have sent me written notice, which I don't necessarily expect, but I'm just preparing for the worst case scenario. But I'm not going to start paying them extra based on what some receptionist said, nor will I go out of my way to remind them to send me proper written notice to increase my rent. But if they don't need a signature it sounds like they could easily figure that they did send me proper notice of the increase and impose the increase as soon as they claim to have sent me notice. Hmm, I guess I'll see...
