My husband and I live in Houston, TX in an 2 story townhome that is a part of a small, gated complex. Subcontractors hired by my apt. complex were repairing the outside of my townhome by replacing some rotten boards. They punctured the interior wall of my living room with a crow bar while doing these repairs. This in turn spread debris of fiberglass, plaster, sheetrock, shards of glass, dead bugs and rotten wood all over my husband's DJ equipment and living room. The equipment is seriously damaged along with about 500 records that are hard to find or out of print. The complex refused to even cover the 4 inch hole in our wall (with a board or something to keep everything else out)until they could have someone repair it! I had to duct tape it - and that is after they told me that they had no materials to use to cover the hole (with a pile of lumber sitting in our parking lot). They have been very rude and refuse to do anything about the damages to the equipment. They told my husband that we might as well file a claim with our insurance company because they weren't liable and were not paying for anything. It took them 3 1/2 days to fix the inside of my wall. The glass in the window is still broken (repaired with the same duct tape I used on the wall). They have not been cooperative in any manner, have not returned any of our phone calls, etc. Any suggestions?

So whats the problem here?

Contact your insurance company and give them a list of the damages, and let them sue the landlord for reimbursement.

I am also a dj, so i know about the records, thats why i have $40,000 REPLACEMENT VALUE of the contents...that costs extra.... for coverage here in New York City only $218 a year!......Keep a good record of the damaged records go on line to ebay see what they might sell for....and put in a claim.

It was damaged by the contractors so the complex and contractors would be liable.
