What is the name of your state? CA
I used an attorney referred from Prepaid Legal Service to collect my life savings debt of 10k from my heartless greedy brother & sister-in-law who to the minute enjoy a lavish lifestyle who refuse to pay me back.
This lawyer was sooooo nice to me, then upon my 3rd conversation he snapped at my friend who answered my phone and me for no reason, I chalked it up to hectic day in court.

I questioned his charging me for his bio sent to me before I decided to hire him; calling him and leaving a message with the girl who offers to take a message;his not having my sister-in-law served at work, but through long duration substitue of service, especially when I told him where she worked at and his adding minutes to our calls

A few days ago I inquired of the status of the case being that both appear to have defaulted by now. He snapped and yelled something then hung up before I could even address the $1,100.00 missing from my account. I have a disability that affects my counting skills, someone told me $1,100.00 was missing. I speak calmly with him because I do not like confrontation and he gets furious. I want to get away from this man, but I invested too much. Without any other funds I can not just fire him now. Can someone please advise me. I have learned my lesson, I just want to be released from his devious grip. It costs me each time I call or write this man which is only every two months. Thank you.

Pre-Paid Legal... I paid to sell the stuff and they denied my application. It seems like a good Org. hence the reason I was interested in their service. Are you a member? I would complain to them because they are a MAJOR source of income for these firms that are part ef their network. A little grease on the right wheel might stop the squeakin'. I believe PPL will take care of their people-IT's a fundamental in what the teach in their traing, which I attended so I Know what they are about. Other than that I wish you luck and justice in all.

Re: attorney who yells and hangs up phone

My major complaint is not ppl. And no certain network groups do not take care of their members, I have gone to the top and got no results from ppl, nor my sponsor.
I am soliciting legal advice on the matter at hand the attorney's behavior. Is his demeanor and behavior legal?

Nothing ILLEGAL about his behavior but it IS unprofessional and unethical. If you have a complaint with him, call the local bar association and file a complaint against him. You are not in HIS grip, YOU hired HIM ! Fire the jerk and get a new lawyer. Lawyers DO charge for their time, so getting charged for phone calls is not unusual. Before you hire another lawyer, you really need to find out EXACTLY what you'll be charged for.

Re: Attorney yells and hangs up

I do appreciate your response, however;you need to fully understand what you read when replying to posts.
I should not have to pay for calls where we never spoke to each other. Yes, in his grip, he has the knowledge, not I, to know if we are finished, yet he won't tell me via phone or letter. Yes in his grip, I have run out of funds to hire someone else. Why should I have to pay him to tell him, hey there is $1,100.00 missing.

My guess is, there are many lawyers are like him who see nothing wrong with this scenario. Anyway thanks for taking the time.

Sadly, a sign of the times.

I had no problem understanding what you wrote before I replied. You never said that you didn't actually talk to the lawyer but his paralegal instead. Again, you are not chained to this guy, but if you don't get up some nerve and face a confrontation, then you're just going to continue to be unhappy with his lack of service and his possibly bogus charges. YOU have the choice here to get rid of him and to file a complaint with the bar association if you think he's being unethical. If you're going to act like a victim, he's obviously going to continue to act like a bully and charge you for every little thing. Did you sign any kind of agreement when you hired him ? All fees should be spelled out.

As for your 'missing' $1100, you have not explained where you think that money went. You might also get another person you trust to re-calculate to be certain the money is actually 'missing'.

Thanks for your input. Guess it take too much effort for a real attorney out there to comment on this.
Anyway, no disrespect, but again you missed some parts again:
I called him with my concerns of descrepancies and he yelled something and hung up.. I think that's of having nerves to confront him.

When I called on 4 different occasions and was told he was not in, I give my name and replied, thank you, I'll call back. .....This is what I've been billed for.

Contract does not spell out calls missed will be billed, or the 3-4 reviews of the same papers

An attorney that I paid $30.00 to review the case had an conflict of interest w/this firm, but advised me the $1,100.00 was missing. Gee, when attorneys have to cheat diabled people the world really must be in a hand basket.

All I want to do is know if I will have to start over from scratch when I fire this guy, if so, he can't delay this forever, so it may be cheaper to make him tell me if the debtors have defaulted yet and take it from there, since he won't answer my status of case inquiry via phone, nor mail.

Thanks for caring enough to respond.
-Much respect to you ladynred-
