I have been paying all of my monthly bills, payments etc... via my banks on-line payment system. I have been doing this for about 10 years now, and have never really had a problem until now.
The method I have been using all this time is as follows:
-Come home from work
-Check the mail
-Sit down that day and schedule payment for the bill to be paid by the banks on-line system a minimum of 5-10 days prior to the due date.
Well back in June the bank was sold to another bank, and ever since that time my payments have not made it to the creditors as scheduled. I just found out about the following approx a month ago:
-My electric bill for June was not received by the electric company until August, and all other bills since then are missing or late as well. I received two letters from the electric company, one stating that my service was going to be shut off due to non-payment, and the other that my check for $135.00 had been returned by my bank unpaid. Through a conference call between the utility company and the bank, the utility company verified that I have never once even been a day late in the past 15 years, much less ever having a check returned.
-I received my statement from my credit card company stating that no payment was received last month. I have never been late on any credit card payments.
-I received a call at work from another bank where I have a loan, stating that my loan was more than 30 days past due. I have had 2 different loans with this bank over the past 8 years and never once been late.
-Yesterday my morgtage company sent a year to date statement that showed from Jan 01 thru June 01 of this year that all of my payments have arrived prior to the 1st of the month, but starting after June that each month has been received later and later each month. Again, never once missed or was late on a payment in over 15 years.
I take great pride in makeing sure that my bills are always paid on time, and this has really been a very stressfull ordeal for me. To come home from work and receive a notice that your utilities are going to be shut off due to non payment! This in addition to everything else is really causing me stress to no extent. I don't have the time to sit on the phone for hours at a time trying to explain to creditors why my bank can't make my payments on time. They don't care. All they care about is that the payment was not received on time, and that's what they notate on their systems, and have now been reporting to the credit agency's.
I have made numerous attempts to contact the bank and get to the bottom of this, but I NEVER receive a return phone call from anyone!
This bank is causing me extreme undue stress, creditors calling my place of employment, and negative credit being reported against me.
I keep a minimum balance in my account of at least $5000 at all times, and it's really been very upsetting to me to receive mail stating that my check was returned by my bank!
What can I, or do I do in a situation like this? Every month it's another creditor that hasen't received a payment, or has received it late. This is just killing me, and the bank just really doesn't seem to care. At this point I have called and written letters all the way up to the Vice President of the bank (not at the local branch, but at the main office for the bank). I just keep being told that they will take care of it, but it's getting worse every month. They even admitted that I am not the only one with this problem of their not getting my payments to creditors on time.
Also, mind you that all along I am being charged late fees and charges for every late payment.
HELP! What do I do?
