my brother and his wife and child live in a single family home and r renting. Their landlord doesnt do leases or give reciepts for cash. But he charges 50 dollars extra for checks and money orders(tax evasion?). So anyway, he is trying to make my brother pay 1000 dollars now-for Sec deposit--after they did work for him in leiu of the orignal 500 dollar deposit. He says if my brother does not pay the deposit he will evict him. He says the reason if because my brother is unemployed. But he isnt---just is drawing unemployment because his job is seasonal. He is up to date on the rent. Also, the so called eviction notice is handwritten. I thought the court had to issue them. Please advice me. Does he have a case?

**A: first have your brother read the NC L/T law. If he can't read, read it to him.

bet your bro thought he had a great deal not having to sign a lease and go through all that silly credit check stuff didn't he?

leases are like condums. they protect both parties, but only if you use them!

brains must be in short supply where you are from. if the LL does not use a lease, go someplace where there is a LL that uses a lease. Are you blonde or something?
