What is the name of your state? NC

I've a fingerprinting appointment for I485 at USCIS. I need to take my I485 application receipt notice along. But it is with my divorcing

husband and he is refusing to give it to me.
1) How do I get it from him?
2) Is there any law which states that he is legally wrong in doing so? If so, where should I file a complaint?
3)If I go for the appointment without the receipt notice will USCIS cancel my fingerprinting?
Pls advise.

You may need to be creative.

2) Is there any law which states that he is legally wrong in doing so? If so, where should I file a complaint?
There is no law against being a jerk, but you may ask the local police if there is anything they can do. After all, the receipt notice has your name on it, not his. Or you can talk to the divorce attorney.

3)If I go for the appointment without the receipt notice will USCIS cancel my fingerprinting?
Depends upon which USCIS officer you have to deal with and what kind of mood they are in that day. The USCIS officers are notoriously INconsistent in their enforcement/interpretation of their own policies. You will need your A# and your case# in any case, and your appointment letter. It may be worth it to try without the receipt notice.

OR you could get a new receipt notice, here's how: http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/dupapp.htm
If you are living at a separate address, you may want to file AR-11 also, in order to avoid having it sent to your husband's address.

You said you were in NC are you going to the Charlotte application office? If you are then first attempt to get another copy of the reciept notice. If not then try out what the previous person said. From my experience the people at both Charlotte USCIS are very helpful and understanding. They have helped us out many times and always been friendly about it.
