Hi,

I have this idea for a martial arts (self defense) tool. Which will look and be Disguise as something used normally by millions of people around the world. I don't have any knowledge in martial arts, however I asked a few people with that background and they told me its a good idea.

I don't have the money to copyright this and I don't what steps to take to make this available to the public.

I know some of these things are illegal from state-to-state. However this marital arts guys buy and sell them in every event. The way this world is going now, and state (NJ) won't let us protect our self with nothing.

Please if you know, tell me what I can do.

The first thing I would do would be to run your idea past an attorney familiar with concealed weapon charges.

It sounds like your idea could be in violation of several state laws.

It takes absolutely NO MONEY to copyright things.
The bad news is COPYRIGHT will provide no protection for you on "ideas."

If the idea is NOVEL and NON-OBVIOUS a patent might be the best protection, but that DOES take money, not just the filing fees but also to get someone to prepare the application which is beyond the DIY talents of most.

If the thing is something approximating a knife, a good resource on the various state laws is http://www.knife-expert.com

Well it's not really a weapon or a Knife. But It will be build very strong and durable for quality purpose. However It can be used a self-defense tool.

I know you guys all right about the state laws and possible weapon charges, I mean even if someone uses a pencil to attack/hurt it's considered a weapon charge. So I guess there is no way to possibly make this work. I guess I have to kind to hand my idea to the professionals and let them make the money.

Anyways thank you all for your input.
