(California) I am a african american female. I worked at a hospital. One day i went to work and a man requested no black people be in the room, or involved with the care given to the family. I was told not to go into the room where the patient was. Through out the shift I was called racist degrading names, talked about, embarased, pointed at. ect. Administration knew what was going on. They minimized the situation. I have been off for 1 year plus behind this. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, and depression, perscribed loads of medication and have to see a therapist once a week. How long is my case suppose to last?

Out of pure curiosity, why has someone else being an ignorance, racist bas tard led to you being out of work for a year? Call me crazy, but had it had been me, I would have just hoped that he would have flat lined on a day when there was an all black staff, or the only physician on duty within a 30 mile radius would have been black. We'll see how quickly he'd let someone in that room then.

People have the right to be stupid and racist. Are you out of work everytime you come across a racist individual?

no, i am not out of work everytime i come in contact with a racist individual, its a little different if your being called racist names to your face! Perhaps all the details are not listed above. There was more then me being discriminated involved. I was the only african american on duty. They made it out of a joke. I had no problems prior to this. I can see this man in my sleep... and thats when i doze off occasionally! Not to mention security escourted me off the campus after my shift was over. AFTER! my job knew what kind of danger i was in, but they allowed me to stay there and had the nerve to have me escourted off....if i needed security to escourt me off, why would they allow me to work the whole day with this man? At any rate, im still under doctors care.

Honey, I have been called just about every name in the book including everything racist. In my line of work, it's par for the course. Shake it off. Build a thicker skin and learn to laugh at stupid people. I think stupidity is an incurable disease.

Oh yeah, you're leaving QUITE a bit out of this story.
