I don't know you, but your response leads me to believe you are biased on past experiences. You simply want to create a (language removed) argument like everyone on this site. It's called "ADVICE" not criticism and not trying to be in the shoes of a tenant. peace.

If a court date was set by the court in order to prevent you losing via default judgment you must show up , in court you are free to tell the judge you became aware of the hearing because they tried to serve you at your parents home and you had not lived at that address for some time , then go for the nitty gritty of it , if they charged you for new paint job and your usage of the units walls was just regular wear then tell the judge and if you have proof / pictures offer them , each item you dispute one by one what the LL claims you owe for and let the judge decide.
