My neighbor wants me to help him clean the ditch between our properties, which lies entirely on his side of the line, because my trees are dumping a lot of leaves on it, filling up the ditch and clogging the culvert. Is this a legitimate beef?

IMO no it is not a legitimate beef. BUT! (and isn't there always a "but"?)..It goes a long way to peaceful relations with your neighbor helping with a bit of yard work. A good neighbor is invaluable. A bad one can make your life hell till you finally move.

Please note the ^ is just life advice...not legal. :)

I hate to say it BUT if you give in and help, your neighbor is likely to come up with some other bizarre crap that they want you to give in on. Your not responsible for which way the wind blows.

Perhaps...BUT (;)) perhaps s/he won't. My Dad used to help a lot of neighbors with their yard work and me and some of my siblings were asked to help. I hated yard work and still do. But helping taught me a lot as a child.

Does a clear ditch serve the drainage interests of your property even if wholly on his side? I'd imagine it does.;)

Just bring a sixer or 2 to share while he works and half a$$ it.
