I just bought a home recently and have discovered about 3 years ago there was a suicide at the residence. The previous owner or the real estate agent did not disclose that to me. I now understand why the property was on the market so long. By law must that information be disclosed to a prospective buyer? (I am in Pennsylvania, if that helps)

My response:

Do you want to reverse the deal?

Is it possible to? A few people had just told me they thought it should have been disclosed. It makes it a hard property to sell, seeing everyone knew this but me it seems. What are your opinions on the matter?

My response:

In most States, disclosures are either mandatory or voluntary. The subheading would be, "what do I disclose." Again, in most States, "physical" problems, as well as attributes, are required to be disclosed. In most States, deaths are not required to be disclosed because a death has nothing to do with the "physical" nature of the home itself. In California, crimes such as murder, and suicide, are required to be disclosed - - however, we are in the minority on that issue. For your specific laws regarding home disclosures, you'll need to speak with a local real property attorney - - not a realtor.
