I live in Boston, MA and I have been in the same apartment with the same roommate for the last three years. My roommate was living in the apartment first (he has been there for six years) and as far as I know he has always had a roommate. When I first moved in he told me that he was saving $$$ to buy his own place. He then got enganaged to his girlfriend and I asked her what the deal was going to be after they got married and she responded that they were going to get thier own place together. Now, he is supposed to be getting married in the next three months. Our landlord has recently sent us the renewal lease for the next year (our current lease ends Feb 2001). At this time, he told me that he wants me to move out so he could have his fiance move in before they get married. Does he have the right to make me leave because now its not convient for him to have a roommate? If both of our names are on the lease, don't we have equal right to the apartment???
Please help!!!!!! I have no idea of what to do. Our landlord says that if we can't come to an agreement then we will have to have a judge decide who has the right to stay.

Truthfully, the landord is right.....you both have to agree on something or when the lease expires the landlord can evict BOTH of you.

Its really a no-win situtaion, so start looking for a new place to live and send a letter to the landlord requesting your secuirty back because his girlfriend will have to come up with 1/2 the rent and the security before she moves in.

And dont forget to ask the landlord to do a credit check on the girlfriend, if she has bad credit he wont rent to both of them....nasty huh?
