In New Jersey: A relative rents an apartment for her brother to keep a roof over his head. He has mental issues. There are problems in the apartment that need serious fixing. He refuses to let anyone in to fix them, not even family. She thinks she will be sued or he will be kicked out if these are not fixed. Lease is up soon. She is renting the apartment. Her name is on the lease. Does he have a say in whether or not people can come in to fix his apartment? I think no, she should be able to bring in the building maintainance anytime to fix them. What can she do? Shes really upset. She can't afford any higher rent for him and doesn't want him out in the street. He gets very angry and intimidating when told in person or on the phone about it. Any help about her options or anything will be very appreciated. Thank you.

If she is not actually a resident, then it's arguable that she isn't allowed access to the unit.

I'm curious - does the landlord know about this arrangement?
