Lease commenced 9.19.98. Girlfriend wanted to return to Venezuela. She told me on 2.99. I never lived at property, paid anything, took possession, or had copies of lease et al. On 8.27.99, I gave notice to have my name removed from lease before 1 year up to become effective when 1 year up. Rental office refused to help even though I have done this at other rental units & group homes. She stayed there past 1 year term. Landlord came after me because she's in Venezuela. CAN YOU HELP? Thank you...

You signed the lease so you are liable period. The fact that you never lived there, paid anything, got a copy of the lease etc. has absolutely no bearing and does not diminish your responsibility and liability whatsoever through the term of the lease and the m/m tenancy.
Afer you gave proper notice to terminate the fixed lease upon expiration or the m/mlease as applicable, then you should not be held liable.
