What is the name of your state?
Connecticut

I have been married to a US citizen since 1990 and have three children who are US citizens. I have had permanent resident status since January 1992.

I want to apply for naturalization but am afraid I will not meet the requirements for physical presence in the US. If I do not should I apply for a re-entry permit to protect my legal resident status? Here is my stuation: We have a business here in Connecticut but have been spending time abroad since approx 2000 in order to establish manufacturing facilities to support our business here. Because the children are school age they have been attending an international school abroad and we have been obligated to stay out of the US until school was out (i.e. from early September to mid-December and from early September to mid-June we have been out of the US since 2000). Our salaries are paid from our business here and we have continued to file our US income and all other taxes during our absences. Our time abroad is directly related to the business here and unfortunately looks set to take longer than we anticipated.

I am very anxious to apply for US citizenship and I believe I am eligible except perhaps for the physical presence requirement, although when abroad we are still working for our business in Connecticut. I am concerned that I might jeopardize my permanent resident status so if I am ineligible for naturalization at this time should I apply for a re-entry permit and what are the requirements for that?

I would really appreciate advice on this immigration issue,

Thank-you
