Thank you for the humourous short story. I did take an earlier peice of advice and hired an attorney that your website suggested. I sent in an earlier help request when my husband was hit by the commercial truck last january.
My situation is a little different as the
company that hit him has started making settlement offers and I would like some idea of what similar cases have settled for and what would be reasonable. Of course my attorney wants to get the best settlement
both for his time and my husbands injury. I would just like an idea of when to accept as the attorney just gives us the amount of the offers and says it is always our decision. As my husband is the one under contract to the law firm there shiuld be no conflict if you offer advice to me as to where I might find records of previously settled claims for research. How can I find out what it means by % permanant disabilty and what is common compensation by % amount. Is there some type of database for this? Thank you

My response:

Go to your nearest Law library, and ask the librarian to show you the Jury Verdict Sheets. In California, they are called O'Brian's Jury Verdicts, but they may be called something else in your neck of the swamp. You'll be able to look up case that have actually gone to trial, that are similar to yours, and read the history of the claim, through to judgment - - either for the plaintiff or the defendant.

Good luck,

IAAL
