What is the name of your state? California

I'm residing in California and I'm looking for legal advice on a horrible situation that I'm facing.

My previous on-site apartment manager got into my apartment while I was not home and stole lots of my financial and personal information such as credit cards, personal checks and copies of my whole family's social security cards, etc. He has already made numerious fraudulent charges on my credit card. I've reported this incident to the police and put fraud alert on my credit file. (The police were able to track him down because he used my credit card to pay for his traffic ticket!) He has moved out of my apartment complex but he committed the crime when he was still employed by our apartment management company. My whole family and I now have lots of concerns about our future financial records.

My question is: Can I sue my apartment management company due to negligence? Any pointers/referrals on what actions I should take against my apartment management company? Do you know any lawyers who specialize in this kind of situation? Any where I can get some free legal consultation? Thanks so much. What is the name of your state?

You MAY be able to hold the company liable for the actions of their employee, however what are your actual damages? I assume you are not being held responsible for the fraudulent charges.

My credit card company and my bank are still investigating my case, but I will probably get back all the money. But my major concern now is that the guy stole all my personal and financial information including my social security number, driver's license, tax return information, plus social security numbers of all my family members. My whole family are suffering lots of emotional stress and conerns of our future credit records. Any pointers on how I should approach my apartment management company are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You should have contacted the Social Security Administration, the DMV and IRS by now, backing up your telephone calls to them with letters sent via certified mail, return receipt requested, that included copies of your drivers license and anything else that can verify your identity. Your relatives should have done the same regarding their SS numbers. Action now, stressing out later.

Thanks for all the responses. If anyone knows where and how I can get a good lawyer in this area please let me know, especially the lawyers who give free initial consultation and lawyers who take on the case for a portion of the reward rather than an upfront fee.

Thanks!
