What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Vermont...My brother is a truck driver. Him and his boss don't get along too well. The law requires the driver to drive no more than 60 hours per work week. My brother has been put in situations where he was forced on the road more than the 60 hours. He informed his boss of the law, and if in fact he was to drive over those hours he would be driving illegally. Now because of the dissension the boss has changed his day hours to night so he cannot work the overtime, since he refuses to go along with the bosses driving hours, and that cut him $20,000 a year overtime. His boss replaced his day hours to another driver who will drive those hours the boss wants. My brother has also informed the boss of some safetey issues and violations prior to all this. The boss made a remark to him "I cannot fire you since you have no bad record here, such as never being late or sick, but I am changing your work hours, and will overlook the minor infractions and mistakes you have made, even though these minor mistakes are made by the day drivers all the time. He is looking for another job, but in the meantime he is wondering if his rights have been violated and what he can do. Thanks Faith

Sounds like he is doing the right thing.

What law limits the number of hours your brother can drive? He should contact which ever agency enforces that law to see if his rights have been violated and whether there is any recourse.

Truck drivers in Vermont cannot drive over 60 hours per week. My brother did report it to the state police, who are investigating. There is a state agency of transportation who will also be notified. He does have another job which begins in July. This job offers more money, but he has to wait until he has attained a different CDL license than the one he has. In the meantime his boss keeps violating state laws, and because my brother refused to violate the driving laws changed his job which in turn affected his income and hours of work.
