Help me, I got a CA calling me about a workers comp bill....
Currently, after going thru a chapter 7 (discharged in 12/02) and getting everything correct on all 3 credit reports, other than the occasional Fleet and First USA idiots reporting chargeoffs instead of IIB, I get a call today from a collection agency!
The caller politely explained who she was and that she was calling about a collections account from a hospital. I had NEVER received any bill for the hospital visit and it took me a while to figure out what it was about. After picking myself up off the floor, I started to inquire about the specifics of this bill.
What had happened is this:
11/21: I got hurt at work and was working in Townville (named changed to protect the guilty). I lived in Cityville, so I decided to go to the hospital in Cityville. My employer okayed this. A doctor comes in and "examines" my back and tells me I am okay and sends me for a drug test and then sends me home with a few medicines. Upon arrival at the hospital, I give the admitter all correct information, including billing address. My employer operates two seperate units, one in Townsville and one in Cityville, and also has an office in another third city.
1/5: I resign my employment with the company and begin working for another. As any reasonable person would conclude, everything is right: WRONG!
2/1: I resign my employment with my new employer and my old one agrees to take me back. However, I don't start back until 3/2.
2/25: At about 4:30pm, my phone rings and it is a collection agency. I found out that they have just been sent a bill from the hospital and are demanding payment. I explain to them that it is a workers comp claim and that it is not my bill. As I already knew, they stated that if I was the patient, which I was, and the insurance companys and the workers comp doesn't pay, then it is on me. I tell them I am going to call the hospital and get this straightened out.
First, I call the hospital. They said that they mailed out 4 bills and that they sent ME some bills AT MY ADDRESS. I said NO I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING. The lady then confirmed my address and I got into an argument with her stating that I did not receive any bills from them. BTW, I had to give them my DOB for them to verify my address and the lady stated that there is an automatically billing system and that it would automatically put in the correct address for the bills sent to ME. I go to the hospital and talk to someone in collections. When inquiring about the bill, I demand a printout of the actual billing information. It reads a total different address that the one I gave. It has my employers address in the town of Cityville, not the one I had given them which was the office address where all bills are to be sent and I also had given them my employer's address in Townville and it also states that my employer is the Grantuor. After calling the employer, they stated that all the bills had been mailed out the past day or two. When calling the hospital back, the same lady stated that it had already been sent to the CRA's as a collections account on MY CREDIT REPORT.
But, there is one other thing. The lady I spoke with was a lady that I go to church with. As fate would have it, she was there at church tonight and we talked about it. She told me to bring by copies of the papers I got from the ER today and she would see what she can do. She stated that the Office Manager has the authority to send in requests for deletion of tradelines.
Boy, do I need some thoughts here and now. Anything to do/not do in particular? Specifically, what do I need to ask for in writing? Please help, I do not want this to kill me on my cr.
