My friend lives in Kentucky, as do I. I'm looking up information because they're freaking out, They were on a chat site earlier today and they were talking to a girl, the girl asked them to call her and when they did she talked him into a sexual conversation and things barely got to the point of phone sex. When they did a person picked up claiming to be an Indiana State Police Officer they started asking a series of quesitons about knowing whether or not he was soliciting phone sex with a minor. The girl turned out to be 15 and my friend is 21, instead of turning him over to the police the 'officer' told him he had a week to visit a mental help institute, and I think it sounds like a joke, what do you think?

I think your friend needs to stop having sex chats with strangers before he gets arrested.

Yes..It was probably a joke.

I told them I thought it sounded like a joke, but the 'officer' gave them the name of an institution and the phone number, and somehow knew where my friend was, the city anyway. Then we looked up the number and it was where the guy said it was. I'm trying to calm him down, I thought it sounded like a joke as well but I just don't know, He's calling the mental help place in the morning.

Tell your friend not to do anything until he is contacted by real police. If he is, tell him to get a lawyer. Also, tell him not to repeat what he just did.

Most of the time police officers do sex stings. they dont give out numbers to call, they dont jump on the line and they dont give you a number to a mental health institution. they will however bait you into e-mailing the person several more times to help build a case against you. and they will try to persuade you into coming to the house as to arrest you. it's not hard to find out where a person lives in a chat room. you give personal information out with just your e-mail address. It's probably a joke and your friend should learn from this experience.
