I had a auto loan with a company in california starting in 4/97 to 5/2000 with dolphin financial. I have paid the loan off but they added $2300 for 6 months of insurance i did not have back from November 1997 to May 1998 according to dolphin. I did go with out insurance during that time for 2 weeks. I did have insurance for the rest of the time and have insurance now for the car. The company I had insurance with is no longer in business. I'm trying to find the original contract with the insurance company so i can prove i did have insurance. I talked with my current insurance agent and she told me to find out if they have a partner company or if they have a license to sell a insurance policy. When i found out about the insurance that was added I ask the man at dolphin how come i did not recieve a contract or insurance cards or anything from them. He told me that i was in violation with their contract terms so that's why he added the insurance. As far as the insurance cards he said that they did not have to send them to me because my contract was my insurance card and if i ever got in an accident just give the person i have got in an accident the information from the contract and tell them to ask for him if any person has question. I have been to the Dept of insurance and Dolphin financial does not have a license to give insurance policys. and they could not find any person registured who could in their company. I then went to the better Business bureau and I found they only have a license to give loans. I then went to the Dept of Financial services and they said Dolphin is only registured to give loans and services like that but not insurance. I then went to the Dept of Corporations and they have no information about Dolphin being able to sell insurance. I would like to know where do i go from here. I'm very sorry for asking so close to my court date. but It's the 4th of Dec and i only recieved my court papers to appear last thurs.
