I am going into small claims court on Thursday morning to sue a former roomate over money I lost from him not paying rent.
The facts are: he did not pay rent for any of the four months that we sublet the apt for ---- it turns out each check he gave our landlord bounced, and a 190 check he wrote to me bounced during this time as well ---- he told me the very first time rent was due that he knew the check would bounce, but said he would pay the landlord in 2 weeks when he got the actual money----he lied to me subsequently each time saying that he had the money and was paying it on time
At the end of the lease I went to get my 600 dollar security deposit and was told forget it, and then found out all of the above.
So I am suing him for the 600 lost security deposit and the 190 bounced check (from utilities that I covered for him) that he says he cannot pay me for at this time.
How should I set up this case when presenting it to the judge? Ive never been to court before, but I have all the evidence, the tenant ledger showing all the bounced checks and the copy of the bad check he wrote me.
Thanks for any help!
