What is the name of your state? California

I just had a judgement placed upon me for an old credit card debt that was purchased by a collection agency. It seems it was filed back in 2001. I got a copy of my credit report and it is listed under public records as a judgement but not as an open account or delinquent. It seems it no longer is on my credit report. They have put a levy on my bank account freezing all monies. This credit card was opened in the late 90's and last payment on it was in 2001. Isnt this over the SOL? Am i still responsible for paying this debt? I am so confused. They told me there is a conditional release placed on my bank account until my bank tells the collection agency how much is in there, then they can seize it and start a payment plan with me. Also, my bank doubled the amount of the debt. Is that legal? I do not have any documentation about this judgement but am assuming its legal since the bank froze my account. Is there any way of arguing this debt? Thank you so much for your advice. What is the name of your state?

Not if they sued you back in 2001 !! If they sued THIS year it would be beyond SOL.

Am i still responsible for paying this debt?
Unless you filed for bankruptcy, yes. Since they have a judgment, they can keep coming after you for 20 years !

Get a copy of the judgment case file from the courthouse, it will tell you exactly what happened and when. It will also tell you when, where, how and to whom the summons was served.
Also, my bank doubled the amount of the debt. Is that legal?
Standard practice, definitely legal. But, you still only have to pay the judgment amount plus accrued interest.

Is there any way of arguing this debt?
Unlikely. CA only gives you 6 months to appeal a default judgment - you're way past that if it was filed in 2001.
