What is the name of your state? WA

On 9/11/04 I purchased a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. Over the weekend I was involved in a auto accident which is I am at fault for. After taking the car in to get an estimate - they mentioned I was missing an reinforncement bar (It's a steel bar that reinforces the front bumper) that was suppose to be connected to the front bumper. This did not come off in the accident because we would have seen it. (Can't miss it) According to the auto body person this should have been on the car and would have lessened the damage caused by the accident.

Yes I purchased the car "as is" but the car dealer didn't inform me that this piece was missing. Everything on the paper I signed (as is) covered the Engine, Transmission, drive shaft, cooling system, electrical system, exhaust, wheels/tires, suspension, steering system, and brakes.

Is there any action I can take against the dealer??

No you cannot. Dealers have no obligation to tell buyers of any problems with the vehicle, that is the potential purchaser's responsibility. That is why people pay to have vehicles inspected prior to purchasing them. An inspection probably would have revealed the vehicle had been in a prior accident.

Re:

Well the car wasn't involved in a any accident because I ran a CARFAX report on the car before purchasing the car just to make sure there wasn't any prior accidents.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carfax:

This coupe has had 4 owners and was owned in Washington. The first title for this coupe was reported to CARFAX by a Washington DMV in 2000.

It has had no minor or moderate accidents reported to CARFAX.

It has had no DMV-reported total loss events, like a major accident, fire or flood.

It has a consistent mileage history with no indication of an odometer rollback.

It was driven an average of 16,126 miles per year, which is slightly higher than the industry average of 15,000. The last odometer reading, reported on 09/30/2004, was 64,290 miles.

It was not reported to a DMV as a Manufacturer Buyback (LEMON)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think its negligence on the dealers behalf to sell me a car with a safty feature that was missing. All I had supporting the front end was basically plastic. Even if the car was inspected by my garage their would be no way of them knowing that the reinenforcement bar was missing unless they disassembled the whole front end.

According to the several auto body shops I spoke to they said its that reinforcement bar should have been attached and without it its a safty hazzard.

Re:

Please help anyone!!!!

I have been to 4 different auto body shops and all have said same thing that the reinforcement bar should have been there. One shop would not look at the car because that piece was missing.

The reinforcement bar is suppose to be there to absorb the collision.

Please advise!!! :(
