We just received a hearing notice in the mail that we are to appear in court at the end of the month. I (listed as the defendent) have not filed any motions with the court. But it states: "The court having read and considered the Defendent's Motion for Visitation Pendente Lite and says as follows..." and then goes to say when the hearing is and at what time.

What does Visitation Pendente Lite mean and how does it apply to me? I pay child support every month, see my child according to my divorce papers, and have no idea what this hearing is about and it states that the Defendent (being me) filed the motion. Any clue?

My response:

Call the clerk in the courtroom. It could very well be an error.

Okay, but what is the meaning of the legal term "Visitation Pendente Lite"?

My response:

These are "temporary" orders made for the benefit of the child while the rest of the marital issues, and permanent visitation/custody/support orders, are awaiting final adjudication; i.e., pending the final adjudication of issues by the court, and to maintain the status quo.
