What is the name of your state? Illinois

My husband is in construction and in the St Louis area, this last year has been the worst in the last 20 for jobs. He's been laid off of three jobs after working steadily for 2.5 years. So, we're in financial trouble now.

We had a repo from 2000 that I cannot afford to pay, they sold it for half of what I owed on it and are threatening (a law firm/collection agency) to sue me for it. The truck we have was paid off in August - the principal anyway - and now I am paying late charges - which keep accruing late and interest charges so I can't pay it off. They won't work with us, I cannot keep paying 750 a month on this thing when I can't afford utilities and necessities, etc.

So I need to know where to go - do we file bankruptcy or can a law firm help me negotiate my debts and avoid having our truck repo'd as well? I cannot lose it, it's the only transportation we have right now. I just don't know where to turn.... and the calls and letters keep on coming. I don't have extra money and I had to take a job two years ago making much less so we're even worse off than ever. What recourse do we have?
