What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas
I made a huge mistake - I entered into an "informal marriage". We never moved in together, share no children, share no property, have nothing together. My name and address remained the same (no ties) but now I realize my mistake and want to see if I can get it annulled. Is this possible? This individual has become threatening, has broken into my home and car, has caused problems with my work, has contacted my family (harrassing them) and has been tracking my whereabouts but when I called the local police department they went to "talk to him and tell him to stop" his actions have only escalated. Now I am told by police that since we are "married" there is nothing they can or will do and that everything is my word against his and they will do nothing but tell me that "we need to get a divorce" I tried to get a restraining order and was told that "it isn't worth the paper it is written on and that we can't arrest on it" as for a protective order the texts that I was sent by him I was told are "written in third person therefore he has not threatened me directly so I am sorry we cannot help".
Please help! any advice is greatly appreciated
