My boyfriend was in an accident last night and we found out that the insurance had lapsed and that the car registration was expired. He now has to go to court on this matter and I wanted to know what measures we should take. If you could please help me as soon as possible that would be great.

No, you knew about the insurance and registration. I would suggest asking for a lot of cash in leiu of Christmas gifts this years, Your boyfriend is going to need it. A lawyer might be a good investment if he can afford one.
