I live in Florida. I have been married to my husband for almost 13 years. He has a 17 year old son. I never legally adopted him. He lives with us year round. He has had no contact with his bio. mom for at least 14 years. He calls me mom. Now we are having problems with him. Nothing legally yet, but I am sure it is coming. He is really pushing us to our breaking point. What I need to know is, is he legally mine now? We are seriously giving him the option to shape up, or leave, problem is he won't be 18 for 7 more months. I don't know if I can stand being here with him for the next 15 months (he has Air Force plans). I do not want to divorce my husband, but I am physically ill because of this teenager. I have 2 girls with my husband. I want to protect myself and other family members. Thanks for any help.

Are you asking if you split up will you be legally responsible for supporting this boy? No.

Are you asking if he causes damages to someone if you will be legally responsible for that? No.

That's dad's and bio mom's problem.

Any biological children you have together, however, would be an issue if you split up. If they live w/you, he'd most likely be paying you support, and vice versa.

Hope this helps answer your questions.
