i have applied for numerous jobs and not been hired. i think my former supervisor is giving out a negative (untrue) reference on me because i left (although 2 weeks notice was given). is there a legal way i find out what she is saying about me?

Yes. You can have someone you trust pose as a prospective employer and call asking for a reference.

However, you need to understand that a negative reference is not illegal UNLESS it is factually untrue or deliberately misleading. An employer is entitled to give an honest opinion and if that honest opinion is negative, that's what they can give. You don't have to agree with it, but if they say what they honestly believe to be true, that's legal.
