My apartment was recently broken into. If a landlord cannot provide sufficient security, is it possible to break the lease without penalty? I have renter's insurance, and am not concerned about the loss of items, only concerned about getting out of this apt. complex ASAP. (Georgia)

well renters insurance, which would cover any losses, and they will sue the landlord.

You could write a letter to the landlord and say if the locks are not fixed in 10 days you would consider it a violation of the lease.

You have really asked two questions, here.

One is, how much security does the landlord owe you, and the other is, how to get out of the apartment complex. The first question may be much more complicated to answer, especially since you did not give any details of how the landlord may have failed. You don't need to answer the first question in order to answer the second.

Discuss the matter with the landlord and see what arrangements you can make to leave, which are mutually satisfactory.
