My neighbor cut down 4 trees in my backyard. They were all around 30' tall. They were Laurel and Privet tree's. He turned in a claim to his insurance company and I have been getting estimates for replacement trees. The estimates range from 10 to 15 thousand. No one can plant 30' tree and the quotes are for 15' trees. Should his insurance company compensate me for the years it will take for these trees to reach the height they were? His company should cover all costs, right? The landscape companies have warned me that the new trees will take 50 gallons of water per day, per tree for 3 months. We are in a drought here in California and water prices are at a premium. Should that be included in my settlement? I know I am entitled to sue for 3 times the cost of the trees per California law. Is that paid by the insurance company or do I have to sue the neighbor.

I don't have any idea why he cut them down. He is a strange, strange man. Strange to me that his insurance would pay for something he intentionally did. Why would insurance pay for destruction of property? What is this case worth? Not greedy just don't want to be foolish.

Insurance is not going to cover the intentional acts of your neighbor. You should consult with a local attorney to have a better understanding of the value of your case.
