Alaska. My dog was at a friend's house while I was away. My friend has a fenced yard, and the fence on one side is shared with a neighbor who has dogs. My dog got under the fence into the neighbor's yard and was attacked by 3 dogs in the neighbor's yard. No one knows which dog/dogs dug the hole under the fence, but the attack happened in the neighbor's yard.

One issue that might complicate this is that one of the 3 dogs was NOT the neighbor's dog (it was a visiting dog), but I'm not sure that it matters.

My dog has had extensive vet bills. I do NOT want to cause any problems between my friend and her neighbor, but was curious if the neighbor's homeowners insurance would cover the vet bills for my dog. Does anyone know? Thanks.

So..the neighbor's dogs were in THEIR OWN YARD.
Your dog went into the neighbors yard and got attacked, and now you want them to pay?

Now...if THEIR dogs came onto YOUR property and attacked YOUR DOG...THEN, you would have a claim for $$$.

PAY YOUR OWN VET BILLS!

Okay, okay

Wow. You don't have to yell. It was just a question...

If a dog is properly socialized, they don't run around attacking other dogs, no matter who is where. I have had other dogs enter my yard, but my dog (age 10) has been properly trained and has been socialized to many other breeds, as is the responsibility of any dog owner, and has never attacked any person or other dog. Being in my yard does NOT make my dogs vicious acts acceptable. Dogs who get correct socialization interact non-aggressively with other dogs.

Unfortunatly, the law does not require people to be responsible dog owners. And being a responsible dog owner goes BEYOND feeding and sheltering.

Yes, nextwife, I agree

Thank you for articulating this, which is probably what was driving my reasoning toward the issue of homeowner's insurance. It just seems wrong that someone's dogs can attack unprovoked, even if it's on their own property. The aggressive behavior was totally unexpected, by my dog AND the homeowner. I've explained it to myself as a "pack mentality" occurrence. I've seen dogs gang up on other dogs before, but not to this extent, because someone has always intervened. In such a situation (new dog enters well defined territory), it's as if they suddenly realize the victim dog is vulnerable, and they become even more aggressive.
