What is the name of your state? Connecticut

I moved into my apartment 10 months ago. When I moved in I asked the management company if it was a good neighborhood, if it was loud, and how my neighbors were.
They advised me that this was virtually a crime free neighborhood my apartment was very quiet, and my neighbors were very good, very nice people. Well, the police are there at least once a day. Usually for the people living downstairs from me. There are 3 children and 2 adults living above me - The children CONSTANTLY stomp, run, jump and I can not get a moments peace. The people downstairs do drugs (I can smell it in the hallways) They smoke in the halls. It is a very disgusting place to live. I informed the landlord - (My lease does state that I am entitled to Peace and Quiet and that No tenant should do anything to cause nuisance) the landlord says and I quote " you can't prove it" We can't do anything. Are they breaking their end of the lease. Is there any legal recourse?

When the Police come daily downstairs, are there any arrest , are there any reports ?

Try calling the Police Dept. to find out if there is a way you can get documentation of the nature of the calls there , and their frequency .
( proof ) .

As far as the neighbors kids upstairs, I feel for you, but kids are kids.
Unless your area has a noise ordnance ( loud music , parties ) that you can call in on, you'll have no basis or proof there .

If you can show proof, write your LL a certified return receipt letter , attaching the proof of reports and their frequency , and request the LL take action.

If the LL won't , consult LL/tenant attorney .

**A: YOU call the police and get copies of the reports. You would need these reports as evidence to support your case.

I, too, live in CT and have a problem with the upstairs neighbor's kids. I have called them, the cops, written letters to the board, written letters to the parents....7 months later still listening to the pounding above my head. The parents do not want to take responsibility for their children's actions in disciplining them. Have you thought about small claims court? We are thinking about going that route with our situation. Good luck to you.
