For about a week I have had to listen to the bass of my neighbor's sterio thump my walls. She lives above me.

I am a stay at home mom with a 7 month old. This starts at around 10-11 am. So I called the landlord to ask her to turn it down. She became enraged and proceeded to slam her door at full force approx. 3 times then stomp on her floor, my ceiling, 5 times more while blasting the sterio.

She came to my door the next day and told me that my baby wakes her up every night with her screaming, yes my baby is a screamer, and how would I like it if she called social services on me.

I told her go ahead, babies cry. I was already on the defensive because of her behavior the previous day so I was not friendly. She stomped off down the hall, and I told her that I would file a harassment charge against her for coming to my door and threating me.

She told me, "just remember who lives above you."

All I requested was that she turn her sterio down a notch.
I've never met the woman before until she came to my door.

I've lived here 3 years underneath her. So, What should I do?

How do you compare turning your sterio down to calling social services?

What can I do to protect myself?

Thank you.

Cindy-
I am not a lawyer - just a simple renter like you. I just wanted to share my sympathy with you. I had a horrible person living above me. She blared her radio all hours of the night, turned up Jerry Springer so loud that it nearly shook the plaster off my ceiling, let her tub overflow numerous times so that my ceiling started to leak, and walked extremely heavily - pacing all hours. She was also a chain smoker - and the smoke would filter down into my apartment. I talked to the building manager and she asked her to quiet down. Nothing worked. It even states in my lease that all renters are entitled to peaceful living conditions! Finally the lady's life got so complicated that she was forced to move out of the building. I'm hoping the next person that moves in is of better character!

I honestly can not believe that woman threatened to call social services on you! Babies cry - it's a natural fact of life. The lady above me had a squaling infant as well, but that was never on my list of complaints. Just because the baby cries does not mean it's neglected! I just wanted to share my sympathy with you. I hope everything works out well for you.

Take care.

she obviously dislikes babies...so talk to the landlord and work out a deal to get your security back and move.

REMEMBER you will be dealing with SCUMBAG social service government workers...dumb lazy, and usually not white, who will convict you of child abuse before you know what hit you.

My advice is to move....you think its bad now......

Just you wait till these ZERO TOLERANCE NAZI'S GET A HOLD OF YOU!

I don't mean to seem unsympathetic, but you have a problem here that only you can solve.

The landlord (or even a judge) isn't interested in getting embroiled in such a catfight between two immature housewives. If your dispute boils over to become a headache for the landlord, guess what he is going to do?

No one cares who started it, or who said what, or who slammed who's door, except the landlord should be concerned about his door being slammed.

If you and your neighbor cannot get along, then one of you will have to leave.

If I were you, I would take djdj's concern about a child abuse complaint very seriously.
