What is the name of your state? I live in NJ. My husband and I are having problems with a neighbor of ours. My husband grew up in the house we are living in, and I have lived there since 1983. Two years ago our neighbors moved in. They seemed like normal people but recently we have had nothing but problems with them. In May of this year our 17 yr old daughter bought her first car. With the addition of this car we now had 6 vehicles and a large motor home on our property. Needless to say parking is an issue for us. We have already (prior to the neighbors moving in) extended our main driveway by adding an additional stone parking area next to the house. We could ultimately squeeze our daughter’s car into the driveway /parking area but we would constantly be jockeying cars at all hours of the day and night. Instead we chose to park “one” of the vehicles in the street located between the properties. The car isn’t blocking any driveways and we made sure we pulled up far enough leaving room for the neighbor to still be able to park behind our car if needed. Here is where the problems seem to have started. The neighbor doesn’t like the fact that we are now parking a vehicle in the street near “their” property. In fact they have gone as far as to tell us that the “used car lot” at our property had to go. If I move the car to the other side of the driveway I will then be parking directly behind the neighbors’ across the street driveway making it difficult for them to get in and out of their driveway (not fair when you consider where it is currently parked it doesn’t inhibit or make difficulties for anyone). I did have to have the police come to the house on a couple of occasions because the wife has been down right nasty screaming derogatory comments at us (white trailer trash, white trash, how white of us, etc.). Police have told them they don’t own the street and that the car was legally parked. Still not happy with the answer they were given they went to the police and the township and told them that my parents were living in the motor home that is on our property, which they know is not true. Still getting nowhere, they continue to contact various township officials trying to cause trouble for us (thank goodness to no avail) with whatever they can. At the townships suggestion my husband and I filed for mediation through the township, however we both feel this isn’t going to solve anything. The only thing that is going to make them happy is for us to move the car. So….my question is how can I legally send this neighbor a stern message telling these people to bug off and leave us alone??? And I’ve been told that what these people are doing to us is harassment…is this true and if so what do I have to do to stop it??

Thanks
