What is the name of your state? AZ.. Problem with neighbor for the past 5 yrs. Began years ago when this neighbor accused me of putting rocks in her mailbox. She also went through notifying the post office of this and I received notification from them that this is illegal/tampering with mail, and I could be arrested/fined. I talked to her nicely explaining my innocence, however she stated she and our neighbors saw "me and my 3yr old daughter putting the rocks in her mailbox". Neighbor shortly later found out it was not me, but another neighbor of ours. Over the years, this neighbor has spied on my home/yard, activities, and has reported every single thing that goes on at my property to an estranged family member (my mother), to cause more problems within my family/relationship with my mother. Whatever this neighbor says to my mother and or neighbors have been lies, and this is done intentionally, as to defame/slander my self. Recently, a friend was coming over, and had an altercation with another vehicle which ended in front of my home. My friend got out of the car and his dog jumped out as well, and this other driver, started driving erratically in circles and attempted to run my friend over, as well as the dog. I watched this happen. My friend then pulled a knife out of his car, to try to defend himself, of which would have done nothing against a vehicle coming at him, but he feared for HIS life. Now this problem neighbor of mine, came out after the other driver left. She started yelling to our neighbors to see/hear what happend. Cops arrived, and no arrests were made. Now today, another neighbor came to talk to me to find out what happend, as he was at work that day, but heard from this "problem neighbor" of the incident. According to this neighbor tonight, the problem neighbor has told the entire cul-d sac where I live that my friend came flying out of my house with a knife, going berserk at this other driver. This is not what happend, and also, the police report states my friend did not approach or walk toward the other driver with the knife. This problem neighbor is maliciously trying to ruin my and my friends characters/reputations, within my residence area. Her accusations and willful misrepresentations have severely (over the years) affected me, as well as my reputation and relationship with my mother. Her verbal slandering of me, as well as my friend, have caused calumnies and ill-will hatred between her and I , as well as my reputation with the other neighbors. What appears now, is she is saying I was an accomplice to offering the knife to my friend (which I did not- it was in his car), and when I spoke with the police officer the day of the incident, the officer stated I was not an innocent party (due to the problem neighbors statement--of which was malicious and solely to mar my reputation in the community, once again). I am an innocent party, I did not offer a weapon, nor did I partake of the incident. I only told the officer what I saw at my driveway and in the cul d sac in front of my home. I cant take this distress and accusations/humilitation anymore from this neighbor. Do I have a case for slander/defamation of character or harrassment ? I have done nothing to this neighbor. I rarely talk to my neighbors, nor do they talk to me, because of her. I am also scared to death to go outside, for the fear that she will start harassing me, starring at me (ie: I go outside to work in the yard, she and the other neighbors stare until I go inside) , a feeling as if I am being stalked. (She and my enstranged mother are good friends, my mother moved out of my home due to an arrest for assault on me, and this problem neighbor seems to be harboring a severe and malicious grudge against me for that). I want to request the police come back, and standby as I make a report against her, with her present, regarding all the problems I have had with her. I would also like to request reports from all other neighbors, as to what she has told them regarding this latest incident, as proof of her slanderous and malicious willful misconduct towards me. Any other suggestions? (cant move, own home with my estranged mother, and she will not sign off on the title to the home) Thanks ....

My jaw is dropping as I say...........This is a end of year post. You have seriousy got to get a life. Do you even know how stupid this sounds? Do you honestly think the police will take a statement with you demanding your neighbor to be present? Leave your neighbors alone and out of it.

I don't even think Carl can come up with something nice, and he is a very polite police officer.

I'll take that challenge and give it a go!

Sounds like a fine resolution to me.

Over the years, this neighbor has spied on my home/yard, activities, and has reported every single thing that goes on at my property to an estranged family member (my mother), to cause more problems within my family/relationship with my mother.
Why is she doing this? Does your mother own the property you live in? Could it be that your mother is the neighbor's friend and she asks about you?

When I was growing up, we had a neighbor across the street that did that. It was annoying because she would keep telling my parents of all my sister's parties when they were away and I would get in trouble for them!

It's annoying, but not fatal.

Whatever this neighbor says to my mother and or neighbors have been lies, and this is done intentionally, as to defame/slander my self.
And what would her motive be? What has she to gain? And why should it matter WHAT she tells your mother?

My neighbor could tell my mother I was a cross-dressing glue-sniffer that likes perverted sex acts with small animals. While it would be a lie - and very annoying, if my mother's opinion did not matter to me I wouldn't give a whit.

But, maybe that's just me.

My friend then pulled a knife out of his car, to try to defend himself, of which would have done nothing against a vehicle coming at him, but he feared for HIS life.
How was he going to fend off a car with a knife? I would have jumped out of the road.

Cops arrived, and no arrests were made.
Probably because nobody was there to arrest.

Now today, another neighbor came to talk to me to find out what happend, as he was at work that day, but heard from this "problem neighbor" of the incident.
Wow! Your neighbors have a lot of time on their hands! I live in a small town where the gossip mill runs overtime, but even HERE we don't expend that kind of effort to find out what happened in something that did not involve us.

This problem neighbor is maliciously trying to ruin my and my friends characters/reputations, within my residence area. Her accusations and willful misrepresentations have severely (over the years) affected me, as well as my reputation and relationship with my mother.
Okay. if you feel that strongly about it, perhaps you should consider asking the opinion of an attorney to see if you have a case for a lawsuit (I doubt it ... but, you never know).

I am an innocent party, I did not offer a weapon, nor did I partake of the incident. I only told the officer what I saw at my driveway and in the cul d sac in front of my home.
Well, unless you are being charged with a crime, I wouldn't worry about it. if the other party left, unless HE makes a report to the police it is a moot point and not worth worrying about. The neighbor cannot be the victim of a crime she merely witnessed.

Do I have a case for slander/defamation of character or harrassment ?
I doubt it. And "harassment" a little vague to be a tort. But, consult a local attorney and see what they have to say.

I am also scared to death to go outside, for the fear that she will start harassing me, starring at me (ie: I go outside to work in the yard, she and the other neighbors stare until I go inside) , a feeling as if I am being stalked.
Do what I do - wave and smile. Personally, I rarely care a whit about what people think of me unless they are people that I care about. There are plenty of people who likely think I'm a rectum's pathway, but I could really give a rat's tailpipe what they think. I wave, I smile and I wish them a good day ... and that usually flusters them more than it would if I flipped 'em 'the bird'.

I want to request the police come back, and standby as I make a report against her, with her present, regarding all the problems I have had with her.
I doubt they would stand for that. What you are claiming is not a criminal matter. The officer would probably close his/her notepad and wish you good luck within moments of your "report".

I would also like to request reports from all other neighbors, as to what she has told them regarding this latest incident, as proof of her slanderous and malicious willful misconduct towards me. Any other suggestions?
What would other reports show? People's perceptions are different. Her interpretation of events in a police report would not likely constitute slander at all. But, if you really care to do so, you can go to the police department and request a copy of these reports ... though depending on the laws in AZ and the policy of the agency you may not be able to get a copy of the reports at all.

As for suggestions? Blow her off! Ignore her. If she stares at you, wave and smile back. Ask her how she's doing. That should throw her off her game. Being nice to the neighborhood busy-body will throw them off track.

Or, you can always create something for her to report to your mom! Invite male friends over ... play music loud ... advertise a strip poker game ... heck, have fun with it!

Above all, try to move past this. It CAN be overcome.
