I live in NJ next to a basketball court of a catholic school. For 9 years we have dealt with crusing, people climbing the fence to get balls that landing in our yard, late night games and trash being tossed in our yard. This past year the school's "booster club" re-paved the court and put in new hoops. They have locked the gates to protect the new surface and hoops. This dosen't stop people from going in. I call the police when things get really offensive or stupid (last week they had bowling balls) over there. Is there any way I can make the owner do something about it.

The basketball court was there first so you knew that there would be conditions associated with living next to it. As for the problems, set up and have a face-to-face meeting with the property owners to discuss the problems. If the propery is owned by the Catholic school or church, ask to meet with the principal, Father and school board President. Make a list of ideas that you have to help resolve the problems and present these ideas to the attendees ie. install motion sensor spot lights at the court perimeters, hire a temporary security guard, hire a roving security service, install barbed wire at the top of the fence to deter climbing, start a neighborhood watch program and designate this area as a security checkpoint, have the local police check this area when they make their neighborhood rounds etc. Ask that after every game, someone from the school goes into your yard and picks up all the trash. Ask them what you can do to help and work together as good neighbors. Peace Be With You.
