To make a long story short, my husband and I live with my mother in a townhome (he just graduated college) we share a driveway with 3 others townhome owners, in the past few weeks my husband has been sanding his car down in order to repaint it (it is rusting and needs it) the sanding is not that loud and done every day, but we have and old lady next door and a complainer right across from us, well tonight he called over to tell us he reported us to the townhome association, do we have any rights to protect us. As soon as he is done sanding his car down to paint it he wont be doing it anymore, this seems like such a nit picky complaint but I dont want to get my mother in any trouble. Help???

Ask your mother or the association for a copy of the association rules/regulations. Look for sections addressing maintaining vehicles in driveways, maximum noise, time limitations, etc. Many associations forbid members & guests from working on their cars in the driveway because it leads to multiple junkers sitting in the drive creating an eyesore.
