I am currently living in Illinois.

I have attended a university now for several years. A couple semesters ago I was told I would be graduating and that I have fulfilled all my obligations. A week before the semester ended I was told I would not be graduating and needed 3 more credits to graduate. I was upset about it. I went through a big hassle because taking only 3 credit hours does not qualify me for financial AID. On top of I did not have the $1700 for the class out of my pocekt. The previous semester I had planned and was advised that I would be graduating, here is the list of classes i need to take and pass in order to graduate. After many discussions, and emails, they finally agreed that they were at fault and paid for the class out of their pocket. So I took the class and passed. Now at the end of this semester, they redid the grad audit and are saying I am 3 credit hours short of graduating again. My whole life has been postponed twice now. It is going to start messing with my financial aid and when I am suppose to repay my loans. And if I have to take another class, again I am not going to qualify for Financial aid because I am 3 credit hours short. I am beginning to feel as if this is a scam. Twice before I was advised by academic team that I was going to graduate, then at the last minute they changed their mind. Within weeks of my expected graduation.

Do I have any legal options.

You don't have any legal options, but I would be getting in writing their promise of graduation, ask to see the checklist of classes (Program Course Distribution), and I would be in the dean's office. You have to realize that the university WANTS you to graduate, because otherwise, you become a bad statistic for them. You are so close, they should be making every concession for you to graduate. I can understand why you are so angry, a full year of not being able to get a job and financial aide looming - go in to your adviser or department and say, "Look at my courses again, and figure out how to get me to graduate, like you said I was going to."

Good luck.
