I purchased a new 2000 Honda Accord from an Orlando, Florida Honda dealer Sept. 27th, 2000 and have just discovered that the trunk lid has been replaced for some reason. I was not told this before purchasing the car and now I am concerned that the paint might be a little off, the lack of a VIN sticker on the trunk lid is going to make anyone I might sell the car to wonder if it has been in an accident and who knows what else. I discovered this problem after noticing the trunk lid didn't appear to be aligned correctly then noticed that the VIN sticker had been removed.

The dealer hasn't gotten back to me yet but before they do, I would like to know what my rights might be under the law for this problem and how I should handle the matter when I do hear back from the dealer.

First thing you need to do is to protect your rights by documenting the problem. Do it NOW!

Write out your complaint and concerns. Send the letter to the General Manager of the dealership (certified or FAX) and send a copy to Honda. Give them a reasonable time (3 business days??) to respond to your concerns.

I have every confidence that you will hear from them. If you don't, at least you have documented your case for future needs.
