What is the name of your state? Florida
My dad sold his house, and at the closing after the mortgage was paid, he received his part except for $5000. The deal was that he was suppose to put in kitchen cabinets, and lay some sod in back yard, when that was done he would get the last $5000. The thing is he went to jail and didn't get the chance to do the work, but in the mean time the people who bought the house received a check from the title company for the $5000, signed my dad's name to the back and cash it. Now when dad tries to talk to them, they just hang up on him. They did tell him that they cash it because the work they had done exceeded the amount of the check? Can they do this or is it forgery.

new owners signed dad's check (update)

I talk to my father and he informed that the new owners didn't even put in new cabinets or sod the back yard. My father also left a car trailer there, he has the reg. and everything proving it is his, well the new owner tells him that the police department says the trailer is stolen and nothing is leave the property. Now if that was stolen wouldn't the police take the trailer and file a report on my dad?
