Our Niece from Colombia is staying with us for a few months. We invited her up here after she graduated from High School. It appears that they finish after thier sophmore year.

Since there are 2 months of school still, we thought about getting her into school. She has a tourist visa, not an F-1.

Things aren't looking good, as the school is fighting it.

I've heard of children staying with grandparents, aunts/uncles, relatives and going to school still. We are not the legal gaurdians. I think the school will want us to pay an equivalent tuition which is about $7000/year. I've been paying my taxes. Doesn't this count?

How is this done? How can we get her into school? Seems like I hear everyday that we (USA) have illegal immigrants in school and permit it. Why is getting our Niece in a problem? Any way around it?
