What is the name of your state?WA

I got myself into a bad situation and now owe a lot in credit card debt. I have been hounded by rude collection agency people. I am looking into cashing out my home equity to pay off these cards, but I don't want to give the money directly to these nasty people. Can I call the original creditors and work out a reduced payment, then send it directly to them?

Thanks!

I live in NY state....I have had some high credit card debt built up mostly in college, and have been paying regularly up until of late, where i have missed about 3 months on one credit card. The apr is up to greater than 20% and the total is about 2,000. I have been started to get harassing calls from alliance one regarding my account, saying i need to pay it all off at once and that i cant pay in installments, which i am now able to do financially. They have been calling my cell phone, and at work, and i have no idea what to do. Do i need to pay them all off at once? And will i be sued for "refusing to pay" as the debt collector called it. Thanks
