I need help. I live in Florida. My boyfriend got into and accident in my car two days ago. We live together and the car is registered in my name only and it also has no insurance. He got into a head on with a yellow cab. The driver and passenger (yellow cab) were not hurt seriously. There was also a co-worker in the car with him(boyfriend) that was hurt but not seriously. My boyfriend was cut up pretty bad in the face. He was given two tickets. One for driving with license suspended without knowledge and carless driving. Both 80.00 fines. On the driving report it only has him listed as having two tickets. My car is totalled. I still have to wait for the police report to see if the other driver was ticketed and who was at fault. The police officer found an OLD insurance card in the glove compartment and put the policy number on the driving report and somehow put down a different insurance company from what was on the old card. Im sure the yellow cab will find out that I had no insurance with this particular company and that I have no insurance period.
I need to know what I can expect to happen? What can I do in the meantime to be prepared?

GET RID OF THE LOW LIFE BOYFRIEND... YOU LOSER!!!!

You will have to pay for the accident...or file for bankruptcy,

PLUS THE GOOD NEWS:

You will lose your drivers license maybe for a couple of years, so you will have to earn about those nice big vehicles called:

BUSSY=POOS Yes they have very nice people who if you pay them will drive these big beautiful vehicles to your destination.

Yes the public Bus transportation will be your friend for the next few years...

And you can also buy a bike at a garage sale, Yeah get some exercise with those 2 wheel thingys that you pedal to get you from place to place.

Or maybe you can buy one of those LEETLE motorized scooters the kids use to get you to and fro workie-poo.

Yes Girl there are a lot of LIFE CHANGES a comin your way very very soon.

reptor is a pinhead.

Keena, if and when your D/L is suspeded you can have it re-instated by paying $150.00 and showing proof of insurance and an S.R. 22.

Based on what you wrote your boyfriend was cited for the accident, so, as owner of the vehicle you will be primary and your boyfriend will be secondary in any action or claim filed against you.

Florida is a debtor state so you can only be forced to pay monthly what you can afford-as long as you don't miss any payments.

You better hope that the injured parties all have PIP or your financial obligation will be even greater.

Nope not a pinhead just being realistic......

It will costs thousands of dollars to get insurance and sr 22, so for all effective purpose she will not be able to drive for a long time.

So the bussy-poo idea is the most logical unless she can find a sugar daddy to pay her debts, not somee poor loser of a boyfriend.

Well no matter how harsh thanks for the responses. I need to know the least and worse case scenario. Just because someone gets into an accident doesnt make him a loser. My boyfriend and I have a three yr old son and we both work hard to try to make ends meet. If Im sued, it will be in vain because I dont have anything to sue for. I just needed to know what my next step is and how I can protect myself. Thanks for the responses

and 5.....

If your loser boyfriend learned about bussy-poos, and bicycles you wouldnt be in this mess.

This will teach you NEVER let anyone drive YOUR car....if the LOSER of a boyfriend wants to drive let him get his own car.

ooops he has suspended license...and you let him drive.

Why cant you say NO to this LOSER of a boyfriend?
If you had said NO you cannot drive the car until you get your license back, then maybe there would be no accident.

Or you can have the LOSER boyfriend arrested for stealing your car!

You can do better then to get hooked up with a LOSER boyfriend ...cant you?

And there is NO SUCH THING as driving under a suspended license without knowing about it...yeah sure He failed to show up in court or pay his fines so they suspended his license, they sent the paperwork to the address listed on his drivers license.

UNLESS you can prove when they sent the suspension notice he was still living at the address on his DL. Then he knew it was suspended, its just another con game the loser boyfriend is playin you for.

You know, people come here for advice. Yes some of us on this board didnt have their car insured and every person has their resaon whether it be financial or otherwise. No, that doesnt make it right and I (and we) know that. HOWEVER! Before you go putting someone down you should know all the facts. Last year sometime, he lost his wallet with everything inside. We just found out the other day that his lisence was suspended for a ticket he got in Miami last year, and you know what? He was NEVER IN MIAMI last year. Aside from that we also learned that his license was renewed a couple of times last year, so what does that mean? Obviously someone has been using his identity. So before you go spouting off at the mouth, you should ASK first! We never received anything about his lisence being suspended. IN FACT, he was stopped not too long ago because the tail light burned out. The officer ran his lisence and guess what?... He said NOTHING about it being suspended. When this accident happened last week the officer said his lisence had been suspended since 8/15/02...GUESS WHAT? 8/15/02 is not even here yet? So now that you have the fact what do you have to say now? Just because your lisence is valid doesnt emempt you from being in an accident. Last time I checked this was the an Advice Forum, so if you dont have any advice for me then I would appreciate you not even responding. Thanx!

Yes he did. On the report is states that he got it renewed several times that year along with the time he "personally" got it renewed.

Well tough that still doesnt make a difference you have NO insurance.

And he should have NEVER driven YOUR car!

And did your boyfrind MOVE without notifing the Motor vehicle dept.?

what address was on the old and new license?

They sent the suspension notice to the old address...

AND THE POST OFFICE IS NOT ALLOWED TO FOWARD THE MAIL FROM MOTOR VEHICLES!

Keena, macckkk and reptor are one in the same pinhead.

You need to worry about yourself. Your boyfriend is legally toast. But, you are not. Since you were not driving, the most that can happen to you is that you will have your license suspended for failure to carry the minimum PIP/PD. Again, $150.00 plus proof of current insurance gets you your license back.

My advice is to make an honest deal on paying back the damages based on what you can afford and stick to it. If you miss a payment you will be toast, too.

I have 15 years of experince in this field as a litigation manager and insurance industry regulator, macckkk a/k/a reptor has 15 years of experience proving his/her I.Q. is below 90.
