No lease, I want them out!

I am from Tennessee.
I rented my downstairs to a young couple on a week to week basis. I own the home, it's not leased. He was working at the time and lost his job in the first week. They are now 4 weeks behind on rent (they've been paying a little here and there, he's been doing a day laborer thing). Two weeks ago I gave them a week to get jobs or they would have to go. They both found jobs and then didn't bother showing up for them. I told them they had to leave and they said no! There is no written agreement of any kind and the only verbal agreement was that they would pay me $100 every Friday. I also can't keep them out of my kitchen and they're eating me out of house and home. What can I legally do do make them leave? Thank you.

You can start eviction proceedings in your local circuit court.

So basically until I can go to the courthouse and start legal proceedings I have to keep feeding them and supplying their toiletries, etc. I'm a mom with a 4-year-old and I can't afford that!

You are a landlord and must follow the laws.

You can file for eviction due to non-payment of rent. Since you have no written agreement/lease, written notice by the landlord of nonpayment is required.

Your tenant's have an oral week to week tenancy. You can terminate the tenancy with a 10 day written notice.

Either way, you cannot force them out without a court order.
