What is the name of your state? Arizona
My husband and I currently have no medical insurance, we lost the plan we had through my husband's retirement program. We own our home, free and clear. In the case of a large medical disaster, would they be able to take our home to pay the medical bills? Or, would they put a lien on our property?
We only need medical insurance for the next 3 yrs until Medicare kicks in but the cost is more than we can afford right now. However, we do not want to risk losing our home, or the equity in it.

A creditor will go after whatever you have to satisfy the debt.

To protect yourself, get some insurance.

Get some accident insurance(pays only for accidents) for less than $30 month.

Get some health insurance with very large deductible.

With only 3 years to go until medicare, you have a very small price to pay to protect your house equity----

Also, get some life insurance for the surviving spouse, so the medical bills can be paid from those proceeds, instead of selling the house.
