What is the name of your state? North Carolina.

A person whom I have worked for in the past recently hired me as a Foreman. I hesitated when this fella offered me this position because he has a history of not paying his help on payday. Usually he has some lame excuse for not having any money. There have even been several jobs where he was paid in full, but he never finished his obligation. Eventually he does pay, although it may be weeks or even months before you will see all the money he owes you!

He has done this to me a couple of times, but I have always forgiven him. I have threatened to sue him, and turn him over to the Department of Labor, but I never did any of these things. I just let it go. After all, this person is a friend, or was!

Thanksgiving weekend, and guess what? Right, no paycheck! We were supposed to get paid Wednesday afternoon because of the holiday, but for some reason, he does not have any money. It seems he decided to pay someone who is threatening to sue him, (he owes thousands of dollars to this dude) and make his truck payment rather than pay his help!

I have decided that I can not take this anymore! It is time for me to do something! I am writing a letter to the North Carolina Department of Labor to let them know that this guy is hiring people, but not paying them. I would also like to let other people in the local building/construction industries know what he is doing, and suggest that they not hire him because he may not finish the job.

I want to let everyone I can, know what a low life skum bait this SOB really is. This dude needs to pay for what he is doing, but I do not want to get in trouble for slander or something if I bad mouth him. Any suggestions? I have a family to support, people need their paycheck!

Thank you for your time.

You have every right to complain to the DOL if you are employed by this guy and he is not paying you. They are the regulatory agency that handles wage issues; it is not slander for you to file a good faith complaint.

However, you are running more of a risk in contacting other building or construction companies.

Thanks for the advice CBG! I figured bad mouthing the Punk could get me in trouble for slander or defamation. I would really like to see this guy black-balled in my community though.

I hate to be ugly, but after what he's done to me again, if I had my way, I would see to it that this dirt-bag could not find enough work to even build Birdhouses in this town!

Thanks for taking your time to reply.

Happy Holidays!
